The Macao Judiciary Police announced on Thursday that a Macao resident has been found suspected of violating the Law on Safeguarding National Security and has been arrested by the national security enforcement agency of the Judiciary Police.
According to the released case details, a Macao resident has been found suspected of colluding with an anti-China organization abroad since 2022, providing large amounts of false and inflammatory information for the organization's continued public exhibitions overseas and online.
Even after the new law to safeguard national security came into effect in 2023, the individual allegedly continued supplying such materials to sustain the organization's activities and influence.
The suspect is also believed to have maintained long-term contact with multiple anti-China entities abroad, repeatedly providing false information about Macao to these groups or their affiliated media for propaganda and dissemination purposes.
The intention was to incite hatred against China's central government and the Macao SAR government among local residents and misinformed foreign audiences, disrupt the 2024 Macao Chief Executive election, and provoke hostile actions against Macao by foreign forces.
Following a prolonged investigation and evidence collection, Macao's national security enforcement unit under the Judiciary Police identified the suspect as a 68-year-old Macao resident surnamed Ou. On Wednesday, authorities lawfully apprehended him at his residence in the central district and brought him in for investigation.
The investigation revealed strong indications that the suspect had long colluded with hostile foreign forces, engaging in actions such as conspiring with others to collect or disseminate false and deliberately distorted information.
These actions were carried out individually or in concert with others to incite hatred toward the central government, encourage hostile actions against China and its Macao SAR by anti-China forces, and undermine Macao's electoral process—posing a serious threat to national security.
The Macao Judiciary Police transferred the suspect to the local public prosecutions office on Thursday.
